Tag&Rename can help your organize your music files. The application can use the tag information embedded in your files to rename batches of them appropriately. However, you can also edit file tags. This can be done manually or automatically, based on file names or downloading info from online song databases.
The program’s interface has so many elements that you may feel a little disoriented at first. However, you will soon identify the key elements. Thus, the three most general functions have been separated into different tabs. First, there is the Rename Files tab. This allows you to use file name masks to generate automatic file names. Second, the multi-file tag editor can help you edit the tags common for a whole group of files. Third, you can also get tags from file names. As this is the reverse process in relation to the first, an important part will be played by setting the correct file masks. At all times, you can preview the future changes before actually applying them. The rest of the interface is a file browser using a tree folder structure for you to navigate to the desired location.
In general, Tag&Rename is a powerful tag editor, supporting multiple types of tags and even converting between different tag systems (ID3v1 and ID3v2). It is also able to recognize practically all types of media formats. You may also find useful the feature that allows exporting your file lists in several formats, which eases the process of sharing your music with others. Finally, it is also important that the program integrates with the system and allows you to use some of its functions right from the contextual menu in Windows Explorer.
